Johnson & Johnson: AJ vs Megatron
by AJ Tran on 9/12/11Johnson & Johnson. Great company. They're known for their many products, and excellent customer service (see here if you feel like reading). What I know them for is for having jackass HR people. When I was a senior in college, I had a phone interview, telling me they'd let me know how it went in 2 weeks, and never heard from them again. Looks like it didn't go over so well. I'm sure I still use some of their products, since their catalogue is so huge, and even if I did know what they made and sold, I'd be too damn lazy to keep a list of products to boycott. Also, I don't really hold grudges that well. Anyways, other then all of that, Johnson & Johnson the company is dead to me. From now on, when I refer to Johnson & Johnson, JNJ, or J&J, I will undoubtedly be referring to a duo of Johnsons (no homo…not that there's anything wrong with that) that relates to Fantasy Football. My favorites and the ones I will be referring to most are the two that I own in my fun family league—Calvin and Andre.
Earlier today, my friend posed an interesting question, "Which of the two Johnsons should I target in a trade?" He's currently in a league that starts 3 WR, and someone somehow managed to snag my beloved J&J. How that happens in a league that starts 3 WR is beyond my comprehension, but power to him. Anyways, I gave it a little thought and was intrigued, since even though I nabbed both of these guys, I tried to do the same thing in another snake league where I picked 9th out of 12. I grabbed AJ first, hoping to grab Calvin on the way back. If I would have known he'd be gone, I would have grabbed him instead of Andre. I've loved Calvin Johnson since I stole him in a later round back in '07, the year Roy Williams dubbed him Megatron. As a matter of fact, Roy was ranked maybe 3-4 spots ahead of him that year, and I decided to pick Megatron before Williams, which proved to be a brilliant move—almost as brilliant as his nickname. I loved that nickname so much that I started working on a Calvin Johnson T-Shirt based on his nickname being Megatron and the Nike release of exclusive Megatron sneakers. But of course, my lazy ass never finished that which I started years ago.
This year, there was a similar situation this year with Cowboys receivers, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant. On this go around, I went with the veteran in Austin, but early Sunday showed how much of a beast Dez is. After that game and the analogy I just presented, I think I might have to start calling Dez Starscream. Dez isn't quite Megatron, or AJ just yet, but maybe one day he will.
Now back to the Megatron vs AJ comparison. I gave you the reasons I love Calvin, and now is time for Andre. First of all his initials are AJ, which is my name. That makes him awesome in my book. I love my name so much that I always play Ace Jack in poker, even if I know the other guy has me with AK or AQ. I never seem to get lucky with that, but oh well. Luckily for me, Andre Johnson doesn't need to be lucky with Matt Schaub as his QB. I've always been in love with Schaub as a QB, and until this season (since I went with Vick), I always tried to grab him in the 5th/6th rounds of drafts. He always did me well, and always got me into the Fantasy Post season. Despite this, Scaub-AJ connection, I have to still side with Megatron on this choice. Why? Houston has a nice balanced offense with Schaub/Johnson and Foster/Tate/Whoever is running the ball. Detroit on the other hand, has Javhid Best, who I still don't buy. Though I didn't watch the Detroit game this past weekend, last year's Lions appeared to be a pass, pass, pass football team. Unlike other pass first teams like New Orleans, the Lions have Megatron. The targets go his way, he wins the jump balls, he makes the 1 handed grabs—he can do it all. He's way better than the Colstons and Lance Moores of the world. He's the guy there. No doubt. Detroit throws a crap load, and they're going Megatron's way. Another way you can look at it is this: Would you rather have a human or a Decepticon on your fantasy team? That's what I thought.
